Description
The Scarborough to Pickering line ran for nearly 20 miles along the northern edge of the Vale of Pickering, close to the North Yorkshire Moors. The larger part of it, between Seamer and Pickering, was opened in 1882 and became known as the Forge Valley Line. There were seven intermediate stations along the whole route and only one, Seamer, is still open. The rest were closed to passengers in 1950, but they are all illustrated in this book. After the Forge Valley Line closed, all the station sites, land and buildings were sold off, some back to the original landowners and others to local people along the line. The present owners have developed, extended or adapted the stations for residential and holiday accommodation, and for other uses. The aim of this book is to illustrate what the line was like in the past and also to show the variety of changes that have taken place at the stations.
